Unemployed? Why You Should Consider a Career in Manufacturing

Unemployed - Why You Should Consider a Career in Manufacturing

2020 has turned many of our lives upside down – in particular, our working lives. Whether your job has been deemed as being critical and you’re out there on the front line, whether you’re now working from home, or whether you’ve lost your job altogether, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in some way.

If you or someone you know are one of the many unfortunate people who have been left jobless this year – you could consider a career in manufacturing as a way of getting you back on your feet. With the pandemic and the current lockdown in England, manufacturing, and the many industries it represents, has been designated as being essential. This means that it is able to carry on with business as normal during the restrictions. What we need right now are solid, stable jobs, and manufacturing may be able to offer this.

Here are a few other reasons why you should consider a career in manufacturing…

It’s always evolving

Innovation is a driving force in manufacturing, so there’s always something new and exciting on the horizon. That new and interesting technology you’ve just heard about? You can bet that it was used within the manufacturing sector before it began to have an impact on our everyday lives. Whether it’s 3D printing, robots, virtual reality, or advancements in the aerospace, medical or automotive industry – there’s innovation everywhere you look within this diverse sector.

You’ll never stop learning

For as long as you want to keep growing and developing, the manufacturing industry will offer you the opportunity to do so. There is a strong focus on learning within this space, with many manufacturing companies offering their own training programs and structures (check out Mills CNC and their CNC training courses). Perhaps you want to learn how to operate or program a new machine tool, or you want to expand your skillset to move you to the next level – or perhaps you want to learn management or HR skills and move to a different department. Whatever it is, manufacturing companies have a long and proud heritage in training.

You’ll be making a difference

As I’ve touched on, manufacturing is an integral part of the future. No matter which part of the industry you are working within, you can be a part of something powerful. Pretty much everything you see will have started its life in the manufacturing industry, and you could be a part of making it. Who knows – you could even be part of creating the next-generation car, or perhaps the cure for cancer!

If COVID-19 has left you on the hunt for your next opportunity, look to manufacturing and its unlimited possibilities.
