In the previous blog post about managerial skills, we described skills as a knowledge to do some activities or tasks. Managerial skills are knowledge needed to do managerial activities or tasks, and entrepreneurial skills are knowledge to do entrepreneurial activities or tasks.
Entrepreneurial skills are the third business element that we talk in the 10 basic business elements with business potential energy.
Skills can be obtained through:
- Native skills. Everyone is born with some type of skills. Some people are good artists, and some have good ability for scientific learning.
- Home Skills. Our native skills are increased with our home education or behavior. Parents, teach a child the skills that are necessary preparing them for adulthood.
- Educational system. Through school and college, we get different skills that prepare us to become some with some type of specialized skills.
- Experience. These are skills that come from our earlier work. Every new day at work or life is some different type of experience that increases our knowledge for something.
How we go from native to experience skills, we have more and more skills. But, if we stopped learning and to expand our skills the level of skills will start to decrease. You can imagine skills as water in some tank that present entrepreneur. From the bottom of the tank continually flow water. This mean that skills continually goes outside of an entrepreneur. At the top of the tank, the water is coming in the tank that means enter of fresh skills into the entrepreneur.
The state of losing of entrepreneurial skills can become because of:
- Time frame of the skills. All skills are designed for a specific frame of time. Before 30 years, there is not needed skills to work with computers. Something that you know today maybe will not be important for tomorrow.
- Scientific progress. Science is developed so fast that you cannot follow. The science has impact on the global trend on the person’s and business life’s.
- Development of new technology. With development of science, there is fast development of new technology. Production capacities are different now as they are before 20-30 years.
- Competitors. There is possibility your competitors to follow trends about needed skills so your skills will lose value.
As you can see skills present source of business potential energy that is not for lifetime source and easy can be undervalued. Because of that, you as an entrepreneur must find different ways how to fill the tank with water – skills.
